Art Department Curriculum Intent
The ambition of our Art curriculum is to support the school vision of enabling every child to achieve more than they think they are capable of achieving.
The intent of our curriculum is:
- To develop pupils’ creativity by teaching a skills based approach to making and thinking.
- To foster resilience through a practical approach to problem solving.
- To support strategies to develop visual literacy
- To develop an understanding of the importance of wider contextual links to support learning
Studying Art is not just for those people who want to be artists, designers, or work in the creative industries, although this is obviously very important; art is important in fostering creative problem solving skills, independent thinking and demonstrating that you can scope a project for yourself and see it through to fruition.
Many jobs in science, technology and business now actively seek out people who have the ability to think creatively about solutions to problems.
Art is also a way of ensuring that students take care of their mental health and well-being whilst studying for other subjects which may have lots of written examinations.
